116. All roads lead to home

The winds blew and we were caught in a storm,

Waves crashed furiously from nightfall into dawn,

We listened to each other speak and thought in our heads

But confusion reigned noisily and our hearts filled with dread.

The road wasn’t paved yet,

The ground was all wet,

The leaves blew into our eyes

Stealing our precious sight.

We soldiered on,

Two by two,

All alone.

Carrying bricks with hands so worn,

One by one,

All alone.

Our duty we did,

Our way back we knew,

When we finally turned back

To look at the city and you.

52. By myself

Finally.
I’m here by myself.
Time to sit,
To breathe,
To do nothing at all.

Finally.
I sit at this table by myself.
My coffee forgotten,
My thoughts fly far,
The sounds of other people slip into a lost world.

Finally.
I can heal by myself.
There is time to listen to my heart
With space for my soul
To be free.

48. Close your eyes

Tutup matamu sekejap sahajalah,
Bolehkah kamu ingati senyumanku?

Senyumanku
Yang lama kamu tidak lihat.
Suaraku,
Yang lama kamu tidak dengar.
Hatiku,
Yang lama yang kamu tidak sayang.

Tutup matamu sekejap sahajalah,
Bolehkah kamu ingati diriku?

Close your eyes for just a moment,
Do you remember my smile?

My smile,
Which you’ve not seen for a long time.
My voice,
Which you’ve not heard for a long time.
My heart,
Which you’ve not loved for a long time.

Close your eyes for just a moment,
Do you remember me?

46. Empty mind

The open mind isn’t an empty mind,
The quiet mind isn’t the silenced mind,
The falling rain isn’t the tearing of the sky,
My own mind is what I’m trying to find.

The rain keeps falling outside,
Heavy raindrops hit down hard on the ground.
The trees cast shadows down the hallowed path,
Opening a new way to view the world.

Perhaps this is a journey I must walk alone,
Nobody will know where my path leads.
This new mind I seek will be mine alone,
Free from the past and you.

44. Night tree

This is my night tree,
The tree that stands alone in the dark,
Never moving,
Never leaving,
Always seeing
The things that move in the dark.

This is my night tree,
The tree that has no leaves,
Only scars that line its face,
Always still,
Always silent
Not making a sound in the dark.

37. Silent night

The sky is blacker than the darkest hour.
Nothing is moving outside.
I sit in this deep silence and think of you.
Your face is etched deep into the shadows of my mind.
Every memory of your voice sings softly to me as I sit still,
not moving,
barely breathing.

Should I survive this night?
Should I go to sleep and wake up to a better morning,
even though you are not here beside me anymore?

It rained all day.
The roads are wet.
The cats sit huddled in the corner,
not moving,
barely surviving.

33. Betrayal

Betrayal comes from the empty chair,
Betrayal comes from the broken cup,
Betrayal comes from the thunderstorm stirring trouble in a wounded heart.

Betrayal comes from silence,
Betrayal comes from you,
Betrayal comes from all the things you did and did not do.
