82. Captain of my own ship

I see the blue waves
Coming at me

I know there’s misery
Waiting for me

I wait for minutes
To pass me by

I know this moment
Will have to die

I don’t need answers
Don’t need a how or why

I see the horizon
And the sun is high

I keep my head up
Can’t you see

I know the blue waves
Are coming at me

Listen
Listen
Listen
There’s a sound of hope
A song that’s meant for you and me

Listen
Listen
Listen
There’s tomorrow coming
A better day for you and me

I see blue waves
Will they keep me afloat
Can I trust them to cradle me
Like a mother only can

I see blue waves
Will they keep me afloat

75. Sidewalk

I’ve walked on it,
I’ve stepped off it,
I’ve fallen flat on my face;
I’ve picked myself
Right off the ground
And kept walking on with grace.

39. Hope

Shall this be my song of hope?

Why do you not want to sit in silence?

This silence is driving me crazy. I don’t want to hear myself think.

How can you talk of hope when your heart holds nothing but despair?

It is because I am sunk, I am defeated, I am nothing more than the dust covering this earth, that I can think only of hope now. I have nowhere to go. No one to meet. No one to hold my hand while I weep. I have to go up. There really is nowhere else to go.

20. Woman

I am an empty woman,
My tears have fallen to the ground,
I am an empty woman,
My cries have made their sound;
I am an empty woman,
My sorrow lies drowned,
I am an empty woman,
Come, let my spirit be unbound.

I am a renewed woman,
My heart now holds no pain,
I am a renewed woman,
My voice will not be strained;
I am a renewed woman,
Let my spirit be made plain,
I am a renewed woman,
And my spirit can never be stained.

9. Misery walks beside me

From the moment of my birth, I have longed for so much.

The comfort of my mother’s breast,
The safety of my father’s shoulders,
The warmth of another’s touch to soothe my aching soul.

In my life,
I have experienced the cleansing showers of rain
and the deafening powers of pain.

Where misery has fallen in step beside me,
I have paused to look at his face
and collect my thoughts,
surrendering to the gnawing at my body.
I have fallen,
countless times.
My scars bear homage to my battles;
My tears have let me remain human.

But I have learnt to love him
and accept his presence.

Being human is not without pain.

At my moment of death, will my heart long for anything more?
