119. Nightfall beckons

Let not the night mourn in despair

As darkness snuffs out the flame

Of yellow ochre stains that streak

Quite noiselessly

Across turquoise painted skies.

Let not the silence hold her breath

As wispy clouds circle a silver moon.

Howling dogs call out our names

Quite faithfully

And so our wild hearts sigh.

Let not the inky blackness swallow me whole

For the night is dark, darker than it was yesterday.

The stars are hidden, far away from all light.

I strain my eyes to make out my path.

28. Eggshells

are you walking on broken eggshells,
letting them shatter further beneath your feet?
do the days seem numbered to you, too?
when did you stop caring about everyone around you?
when did you stop wondering if you could ever fit in?

perhaps the days don’t take that long anymore to turn into night.

i used to think what i said mattered.
i used to think i mattered.

there is a cloudless sky outside,
but i choose to keep my window closed.
i know the air is still because nothing is moving inside.

do you know who lived within those walls?
the armour is now gone, crushed beneath your feet.
the mask has fallen, never to be lifted again once more.

23. Stay

i would stay
if you could change

i would stay
if you could keep your word

i would stay
if you didn’t let us drown

i would stay
if you could remember
i don’t deserve to be hurt

i would stay
if you didn’t stray

i would stay
if you could hold my hand

i would stay
if i could
