53. The breaking

That heart wouldn’t stop beating.

That crumpled piece of paper lay where she’d thrown it.

The merlot sang its forgotten melody amidst the shattered glass.

The mosaic grew dark beneath that moist stain, a painful reminder of the hour they’d shared.

Even after the footsteps grew silent, that heart wouldn’t stop breaking.
